‘Shared Terrain’ brings Nepali voices to India Art Fair
Curated by Shivangi Bansal, the show presents Nepali artists who reimagine inherited practices in a contemporary world.Post Report
Danfe Arts is set to present ‘Shared Terrain’, featuring six artists from Nepal, at the India Art Fair 2026, from February 5 to 8, where 133 exhibitors from over 14 countries are participating. ‘Shared Terrain’ is curated by Shivangi Bansal, the founder of Danfe Arts.
It showcases six artists—Sunita Maharjan, Sanjeep Maharjan, Sushma Shakya, Sahil Bhopal, Priyanka Maharjan, and Anil Shahi—who explore inherited traditions not as fading legacies of a lapsed era, but as a living, evolving map of overlapping realities.
Sunita Maharjan traces the transformative cycles in her hometown, Kirtipur. Artist Sanjeep Maharjan uses clay to depict the flow across elements and practices, connecting the nature of water bodies to dance and sculpture.
Artist Sushma Shakya’s work explores the five elements that underpin the ecologically advanced architectural systems of her ancestors in Kathmandu.
Thangka artist Sahil Bhopal depicts the protective feminine Deity Tara, using expressions of the sacred Deity to protect against the eight fears that, though defined in antiquity, continue to influence our inner lives today.
Priyanka Maharjan celebrates women’s heritage, mastery of craft, and community with her work ‘To all the Women Who Came Before Me.’
Finally, artist Anil Shahi weaves elements from ancient myths, Kathmandu’s undulating terrain, its chaotic cityscape, and sacred sites into a surreal landscape.
