Kathmandu Art Gallery has marked a new beginning in its relocated space at Baber Mahal Revisited with ‘Masters of Devotion: Paubha Art from Bhaktapur’. The exhibit currently on display is the second dedicated to traditional Paubha paintings. It features works by 22 Bhaktapur artists, celebrating the late masters who laid the foundation and the living artists who continue their sacred legacy.
Gallery Director Sangeeta Thapa reflected on the ancient Paubha tradition that dates back to the 7th century and praised the artists of Bhaktapur for carrying this spiritual and artistic lineage forward with devotion and mastery. She emphasised that each painting represents a sacred offering and reflects Nepal’s enduring cultural soul.
Announcing the gallery’s relocation from Le Sherpa to the Baber Mahal Revisited premises, she shared plans to develop programmes, workshops, and artist residencies to foster creativity and collaboration within Nepal’s artistic community.
Speaking on behalf of the 22 artists, senior artist Purna Prasad Hyoju highlighted the dedication and hard work that go into each Paubha painting and thanked everyone for recognising and supporting the artists’ devotion to their craft.
‘Masters of Devotion: Paubha Art from Bhaktapur’ remains open to the public at Kathmandu Art Gallery, Baber Mahal Revisited.
