The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that the monsoon system continues to affect the country, with the monsoon trough situated near the average position.

According to the 24-hour forecast issued at 6am Thursday, the weather will remain generally cloudy in the hilly regions of the country, including Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the Tarai will see partly cloudy skies.

Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas of Sudurpaschim Province and a few places in the Tarai region of Lumbini Province. One or two places in the Tarai of Madhesh Province and the remaining Tarai regions may also witness similar weather during the day.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hills and partly cloudy in the Tarai of Koshi, Madhesh, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Thunderstorms with moderate rain are likely in a few hilly areas of Madhesh and Sudurpaschim provinces and at one or two locations in the Tarai.

The department has urged people to take precautions against possible lightning and rainfall-related risks.
