The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted widespread rainfall across the country over the next 24 hours, with chances of heavy to very heavy downpour in several provinces as the monsoon remains active.
According to the division, the monsoon trough lies near its average position, bringing significant moisture to Nepal’s atmosphere.
During the day on Saturday, skies are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at isolated locations elsewhere. Heavy rain is expected at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.
The division also forecast light to moderate rain or snowfall in some high-hill and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and in a few locations of higher elevations in other provinces.
For the night, widespread rainfall is predicted to intensify. Many places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are likely to receive light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places within these provinces.
High-hill and mountainous areas across the country could witness light to moderate rain or snowfall during the night, particularly in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki.
Authorities have advised caution, particularly in areas vulnerable to floods and landslides.
