Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in several parts of eastern and central Nepal today, particularly affecting the hilly regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
This afternoon, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy over the hilly regions of most provinces, including the aforementioned five, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies. Thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall are likely in a few places across the hills of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini, and at one or two locations in the remaining areas.
There is also a chance of light rain or snowfall at a few places in the high-hill and Himalayan regions. Additionally, brief gusty winds are likely to occur at a few places in the Tarai regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
During the night, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. The rest of the country will see mainly clear to partly cloudy conditions. Thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall may occur at a few locations in the same five provinces and at one or two places elsewhere. The high-hill and Himalayan areas may again see light rain or snowfall at isolated locations.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the current weather pattern is being influenced by westerly and local winds. Moisture brought in from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea is also contributing to the present atmospheric conditions.
