Armed police ramp up patrols along riverbanks in Kathmandu Valley
Home minister inspects security units as authorities prepare for possible monsoon disasters.

The Armed Police Force has intensified patrols in areas around rivers in the Valley in view of possible monsoon-induced disasters.
Assistant Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said patrols and public awareness announcements were carried out on Friday evening in Chobhar, Balkhu, Balaju, Machhapokhari, Banasthali and other areas. “The force has identified riverbanks and flood-prone zones and deployed teams for patrols and miking,” he said. Residents have also been advised to call the toll-free number 1114 in case of emergencies.
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Friday inspected several Armed Police units in the Valley after the Meteorological Forecasting Division warned of rising water levels in rivers with risks of floods and landslides. Aryal directed security agencies to stay prepared with resources and equipment.
The Armed Police Force has trained rescue personnel, divers, rafts, motorboats, heavy equipment, and mass-casualty vehicles for disaster response. The home minister also visited the Nepal Police Disaster Management Office in Samakhusi the same day. The Home Ministry has directed districts at risk to heighten preparedness.
