Police on Friday arrested two persons, including an Indian national, from Rautahat district on charges of extortion. The extortionists, police claim, threatened businesspersons of violent consequences if they did not cough up the amount demanded by the duo.
The detained were Prem Paswan, of Sitamarhi district, of Bihar, in India, and Nanda Kishwor Raya Yadav, of Gaur Municipality-5. Paswan was held from Bhansar Gate while Yadav was nabbed from his own residence. The suspects were paraded amidst a press meet in the District Police Office.
The suspects planted a suspicious object saying it was an explosive at Dhadkan Road on April 27 apparently to terrorise the business community. The extortionists, according to police, demanded Rs 3 million from a Gaur-based businessperson and placed the suspicious object in front of his shop after he refused to provide the demanded amount.
Police say both suspects have admitted to their involvement in the crime.
“The duo used to demand huge amounts of money as donation to the businesspersons and even created a bomb hoax if they refused to pay,” said Superintendent of Police Bhupendra Khatri, adding that a case would be filed against the duo under civil and criminal code.
