Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting an officer inside the premises of Pashupatinath Temple, days after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The footage showed a youth attacking and kicking a police officer on duty. The incident occurred amid heavy crowds during Shivaratri. Police had attempted to detain him at the time, but he managed to flee.
On Tuesday, Kathmandu Valley Police Office issued a public notice seeking information about the suspect.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa said the suspect had been arrested.
According to police, Rijan Shrestha, a permanent resident of Makawanpur and currently living in ward 13 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, was apprehended from Swayambhu.
