Congress Mahasamiti leader Bajgain demands disciplinary action against Deuba

Nepali Congress Mahasamiti member Rajendra Bajgain on Wednesday wrote a letter to the party’s central disciplinary committee demanding strong action against party President Sher Bahadur Deuba according to the party statute.
In his statement, Bajgain questioned why Deuba allowed the policy and programmes presented by the government under Nepal Communist Party leader KP Sharma Oli to be endorsed unanimously. He said such a step by Deuba, in his capacity as the opposition party leader, has hurt parliamentary norms.
“There are several instances of enormous abuse of democratic system by honourable president and former Prime Minister [Deuba] during the formation and dissolution of government,” Bajgain wrote in the letter. “It is evident that the Nepali Congress, which emerged as the single largest party through the second Constituent Assembly elections, suffered an embarrassing defeat under Deuba’s leadership after he took the reins following Sushil Koirala’s death,” he continued.
Earlier this month, Nepali Congress formed a disciplinary committee that includes five central committee members of the party to field complaints and recommend action against party leaders who have violated the group’s norms.
Bajgain’s complaint is the first one to be lodged with the committee against any leader since the group was formed.
