With the minimum temperature plummeting to 2.5 degree Celsius, the Kathmandu Valley experienced the coldest day of this winter season so far on Monday.
The minimum temperature in Kathmandu Valley was 3.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Normal life has been affected with the plunge in mercury across the country.
Meteorologist Barun Paudel said the cloudy weather is likely to continue in the eastern and central regions, including Kathmandu Valley, for Tuesday as well as a result of Phet Cyclone in the southwest of Bay of Bengal.
Paudel said that temperature might plunge further across the country in the coming days.
According to Meteorological Forecasting Division at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, light rainfall is likely to occur in some places of eastern and central regions and one to two places of western hilly region of the country.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division further said that there are chances of light snowfall in some places of eastern and central high mountain regions.
Most of the places in the Tarai region have been covered with fog today, meteorologist Paudel said.
Jumla recorded the lowest temperature at –6 degrees Celsius today while Biratnagar recorded the highest minimum temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius.
