Action against people misusing social media: Police

Issuing a notice of public importance on Wednesday, the division said those found posting illegal contents in social media will be subject to action and advised the people to desist from such acts.
The division said its serious attention has been drawn towards the growing activities aimed at defaming the people by misusing photos from their social media to produce pornographic images and share it on social media such as facebook, twitter, viber, emo, and instagram.
Likewise, the division also noted that activities such as issuing threats, blackmailing, writing misleading comments about certain people and organisations, and posting defamatory comments in social media are also taking place.
The division said, according to Electronic Transactions Act-2063, anyone found guilty of the aforementioned activities would be fined Rs 200,000 or jailed for five years, or both.
