‘File appeal in Supreme Court against Chakre Milan acquittal’
The Special Government Attorney Office (SGAO) on Monday advised the Office of Attorney General to file an appeal in the Supreme Court (SC) against Special Court’s acquittal of gangster Milan Gurung aka Chakre Milan in the money laundering case.

SGAO Joint Attorney General Murari Prasad Poudel said, “We sent our recommendation to the AG Office on Friday to register an appeal petition at the SC against the Special Court verdict on Milan.”
The Special Government Attorney Office had received the full verdict of the Special Court on May 7. The AG Office has right to decide on whether to file appeal petition at the SC, he said.
As per the current legal provision, the AG office should register appeal petition at the SC within 50 days from the date of Special Government Attorney Office receiving the full verdict of the Special Court.
On January 24, The Special Court’s three-member of bench of Justices Ratna Bahadur Bagchand, Chandiraj Dhakal, and Pramod Kumar Shrestha acquitted Chakre Milan on January 24 this year.
Besides Milan, the Special Court also acquitted other notorious gangsters Rajeev Gurung aka Deepak Manage and Parshuram Basnet in the money laundering case in separate verdicts.
The Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DoMLI) had filed separate cases against five gangsters -Milan, Manange, Basnet, Ganesh Lama and Abhishek Giri - at the Special Court on charges of amassing millions of rupees through illegal means on May 20, 2013. The department had charged Milan of amassing illegal property worth Rs70.8 million.
Earlier, the AG Office had failed to register an appeal in the SC in the case of Manange. The SC rejected the appeal for missing the deadline. This spiked the money-laundering case against Manange. He is currently serving prison term in attempted murder case.
The AG Office should have registered the appeal in the SC by January 14 but it registered on January 24, according to AG Office.
AG Office Spokesperson Sanjeev Raj Regmi said we will not make the same mistake in the case of Chakre Milan, if the AG Office decides to register appeal petition at the SC.
“We are very much concerned about the deadline after missing it in the case of Manange,” he said.
People asked many questions when the AG Office did not register an appeal against the Manange verdict.
