A High-level police source said that Rawal was detained on Monday for investigation after he was found to have links with the alleged mastermind of the gold smuggling case, Chudamani Uprety, alias Gore.

Earlier in the day, the probe team had interrogated another sub-inspector at the crime division, Bal Krishna Sanjel. Sanjel is the same sub-inspector who was regularly in communication with Gore.
Sanjel has already been transferred to Nepal Police Headquarters.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on January 5, 2017 had confiscated 33kg gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) that had passed undetected through the customs.
