Absconding fraud convict Roma Neupane arrested

Roma Neupane, who gained lots of love and appreciation from people across the globe due to her dance performances despite being an amputee, was apprehended recently. Neupane had lost her one leg in a bus accident when she was eight-year-old.
Though a joint police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Durbarmarg and Metropolitan Police Circle, Lainchaur, arrested her on February 24, they released her without considering the gravity of the case.
Later on February 25, Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, correcting its earlier mistake, issued a circular to all the police stations of the Kathmandu Valley to nab Neupane and started searching her.
Kohinoor Basnet, Sasaina Ranjitkar and Dhaneshwor Ranjitkar had filed a complaint against Neupane at the Kathmandu District Court accusing her of defrauding Rs 3.6 million.
She was accused of defrauding millions of rupees from the people through Volunteer Association of Disabilities (VAD).
A complaint was lodged at the Kathmandu District Court against Roma and his husband Chiranjivi Pokharel on August 14, 2015.
The Kathmandu District Court, had on January 10, 2017, had sentenced Pokharel to two years in prison along with a fine of Rs 3.6 million. Neupane, however, had been absconding by ignoring the court summons.
