The Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, has recommended the Nepal Police Headquarters to suspend Inspector Laxman Thakuri of Durbarmarg Police Circle over the Durbarmarg gang rape incident, in which he allegedly refused to record the victim’s complaint and pressured her to make a financial settlement with the perpetrators.
Sub Inspector Chandra Bhandari, another officer accused on the same charge, was suspended on Thursday while the chief of Durbarmarg Police Circle DSP Tilak Bhatta is also being investigated. The Metropolitan Police Range is currently recording statements of DSP Bharati and Inspector Thakuri.
The 22-year-old woman was raped by four men at Hotel Landmark in Capital’s Durbarmarg on the night of January 25.
