Polls on scheduled dates to strengthen democracy: PM

He made such remarks during his meeting with US Ambassador Alaina B Teplitz on Tuesday.
“We are in the process of institutionalising democracy,” he told the US envoy.
PM Deuba, according to his Foreign Relations Adviser Dinesh Bhattarai, shared that people enthusiastically participated in the local elections and that local representatives have already started providing services to the people. “With this democracy at the local-level is being strengthened,” he said The prime minister expressed his hope that the people would enthusiastically take part in the two elections as well.
“The government has laid equal focus on all three tiers of elections,” he said, adding that strengthening of democracy is possible only through effective implementation of the constitution.
On her part, US Ambassador Teplitz informed Prime Minister Deuba about various aspects of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant assistance.
The US government recently provided $500 million to Nepal under its MCC, an independent US government agency working to reduce poverty through the means of economic development, for the development and expansion of road infrastructure and electricity transmission networks in Nepal. She also congratulated Nepal for its elections to the UN Human Rights Council.
