Around 35 metric tons of solid waste was collected and managed several various rivers and the Ring Road areas of Kathmandu Valley on Saturday. 

Nearly 17 metric tons of waste was extracted from the Bagmati river near Gusingal at Tripureshwor as the Bagmati Mega Clean-up Campaign entered its 215th week on Saturday. 

Over 550 people from different walks of life participated in the campaign. Gorkha Finance Chief Executive Officer Raj Kumar Rai provided 650 masks, 600 pairs of gloves, 20 baskets and 60 pairs of gumboots to the campaigners, according to campaigner Umesh Bohara.

Actor Manisha Koirala, who has been appointed the goodwill ambassador for the clean-up drive, former secretary Krishna Chandra Poudyal, ordinary people and students were also in attendance.

Personnel from the Nepal Army and Nepal Police, officials from the High Powered Committee for the Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilisation, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, Blue Cross Hospital and Muktinath Development Bank among others also participated in the clean-up drive.

Meanwhile, two metric ton waste was managed from Bagmati in Gokarneshwor Municipality. The campaign was organised by the Pudasaini Maitri Samaj and Ramro Jorpati, Hamro Jorpati. Campaigners on Saturday also scooped up two metric ton of waste from the Bishnumati river in the New Bus Park area as the clean-up drive entered its 146th week. A total of 275 volunteers participated in the campaign.

Marking 174th week of Rudramati Clean-up Drive, volunteers organised a door-to-door awareness programme from Gyaneshwor to Kamalpokhari, City Centre, Kumari Mandir and Rato Pul. Over 200 volunteers participated in the campaign and managed around one metric ton of waste. 

Samakhusi Chowk and Gongabu areas were also cleaned as part of the 11th week of the Ring Road cleaning campaign. Around 11 metric ton of garbage was managed in the areas with the participation of a large number of people including hoteliers and women.
