Monitors deployed for subtle poll monitoring

An official of EC told the Post that such monitors have been permitted to inspect the activities of them without being noticed. "Only Chief District Officer and the Chief Election Officer will know who they are," said the EC official. "During the inspection, they will be authorised even to check for arms and other materials that could harm the elections with the help of police."
Without informing the number of such monitors deployed, the EC official said that they will have to report the EC on daily basis about what is going on at local units they have visited. "They should submit their report after the elections are over," said the EC official.
Candidate submits clarification on poll code violation
Janak Thapa, the mayoral candidate from Sanghiya Samajwadi Party, Nepal and Naya Shakti Nepal for Mahalaxmi Municipality, Lalitpur submitted clarification to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday stating they didn't take out motorcycle rally as observed by the EC.
The election authority had on Saturday sought clarification giving a 24-hour deadline from Thapa for taking out motorcycle rally against the election code of conduct.
According to EC, Thapa, in his clarification letter, has argued that cadres associated with Sanghiya Samajwadi Party and Naya Shakti Nepal had converged while carrying the election publicity materials from their parties' district offices to the election centres.
EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma said that EC is not informed about whether any decision has been taken on the matter.
