The main opposition CPM-UML has sought holding the second phase of local level elections on May 24 or 25 instead of June 14.The main opposition CPM-UML has sought holding the second phase of local level elections on May 24 or 25 instead of June 14.
The UML leaders have drawn the attention of the Election Commission (EC) on the same on Thursday.
Saying that there is a constitutional provision of presenting the budget on May 29, the UML leaders piled pressure on the EC to hold the election before the budget.
The party’s Parliamentary Party deputy leader Subash Nembang said the party had tabled a written request to the EC to hold the local polls before the budget.
“There are many reasons that second phase of local level elections could not be held on June 14,” leader Nambang said, adding, “The second phase of elections should be held before the budget.”
He said that the EC had also said that the budget between the two elections would violate the election Code of Conduct.
“The budget will affect the second phase of elections which will not be accepted by the party,” Nembang said.
