Polling stations fixed in 68 districts
The Election Commission has said it has designated polling stations in 68 districts for the local level elections scheduled for May 14.The Election Commission has said it has designated polling stations in 68 districts for the local level elections scheduled for May 14.
As of Monday evening, the poll authority has not fixed the centres in six of the eight districts in Province 2, and Dhading district.
Polling stations in Bara and Parsa have been determined but those in other districts—Saptari, Siraha, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Rautahat and Sarlahi—of the province are yet to be fixed due to the lack of consensus among the political parties.
The EC has authorised the committee headed by the chief district officer that represents political parties, and officials from the District Election Office, among others, to finalise the polling stations.
Surya Sharma, the EC spokesperson, however, said their works had not been affected by the protests of the Madhes-based parties that have announced to foil the vote.
The District Election Offices are sending the reports of the polling stations to the EC headquarters.
The commission estimates that around 21,000 polling booths will be set up for
the local elections.
The EC is also working on the voter list—of citizens who attended 18 years of age by February 20, when the date for the local polls was announced. The poll authority plans to complete the task by April 2.
The election body estimates that there will be some 14 million voters. “Once the voters are finalised, along with their new addresses following the local level restructuring, we will start printing voter identity cards,” said Sharma.
Ballot printing over for 32 districts
KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has completed printing of the ballot papers for 32 districts, mainly those in the mountains and hills.
Election officials said they prioritised printing the ballot papers for the remote districts as the logistics have to be delivered there earlier. The
EC aims to complete the printing of ballot papers by April-end.
