Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that his party CPN (Maoist Centre)'s main agenda is directly elected executive system of state governance.

Receiving a memorandum submitted by the Naya Shakti Nepal here on Monday, the PM stated that he was in favour of the directly-elected executive state governance system as he and his party had been advancing this agenda since the past.

The Prime Minister explained that he signed on the constitution but wrote a 'note of dissent' to keep the agenda alive, in the prerequisite of issuing the constitution on consensus, and added that he was equally committed to this agenda at present also.

He further said although he wrote an 8-point note of dissent to extend cooperation to the constitution writing, the agenda has not been compromised and thanked the Naya Shakti for reminding him of the agenda.

Stating that there was no immediate possibility of that agenda being passed in the present situation as it requires two-thirds support in the Legislature-Parliament to get through, PM Dahal stressed that his party and he himself were ready to work together for the success of the agenda, the Prime Minister's press advisor Govinda Acharya said.

Prime Minister Dahal also stressed on the need of meaningful cooperation from all sides for making the local level election successful as its date has already been announced.

A delegation led by Coordinator of the Naya Shakti Party and former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai handed over the memorandum along with the signatures collected by the party to the PM, calling for making provision for the directly-elected executive chief and holding the elections on the proportional and inclusive basis.
