US concerned over violence in Saptari
The United States of America has expressed its concern about rising volatility in Nepal.The United States of America has expressed its concern about rising volatility in Nepal.
The US embassy in Kathmandu issued a statement on Tuesday and said it was concerned by the recent clash in Saptari district resulting deaths of protestors.
"The right to peacefully express one’s political views is a fundamental component of an inclusive democracy, but violence should not be part of the political discourse," read the statment.
The embassy has called on Nepali security forces to exercise maximum restraint as people express their democratic rights. It has also urged all protesters and parties to continue to engage in the democratic process through non-violent means.
Three protestors died and at least seven others sustained bullet injuries when police opened fire at them to contain the situation after protestors became violent while obstructing the CPN-UML's programme in Saptari on Monday.
