A person was confirmed contracting H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu, at the Sukraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital at Teku in the Capital city on Thursday.

According to Infectious Disease Specialist Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, a man from Lalitpur was tested positive for swine flu during his treatment at the Hospital.

Cases of swine flu were detected among the patients during monsoon last year, shared Dr Pun, adding that the person visiting the hospital was unaware of the infection until he was diagnosed by the doctors at the Hospital.

Dr Pun said, "He had been suffering from fever for a long time combined by continuous common cold for two weeks. We detected the infection on him during the diagnosis."

The common symptoms of the infections are cough, fever for more than 10 days, sore throat, body ache and fatigue among others. People with low immunity are more vulnerable to swine flu who can infect it to others by sneezing or coughing open.

He advised people to consult doctors in case of the above symptoms and to observe precautions such as wearing a mask while sneezing or coughing, washing hands and eating fluid.
