PM in discussion to appoint acting IGP

A Cabinet meeting appointed Jaya Bahadur Chand as the new police chief on Sunday but the Supreme Court stayed promotion of Chand to IGP hours after the Cabinet decision.
The confusion to select the new police chief has also delayed the farewell ceremony of outgoing IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal. Aryal's farewell ceremony, slated for Monday afternoon, was postponed .
Despite being third in seniority basis, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is learnt to have pressed PM Dahal and DPM NIdhi to appoint Chand as the new IGP, an accusation Deuba denied. Chand was ranked behind DIG Nawaraj Silwal and DIG Prakash Aryal in the IGP race.
