The Supreme Court on Sunday issued an order suspending the implementation of Jaya Bahadur Chand's appointment as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).

A single bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki also ordered to produce the decisions regarding the IGP's appointment.

Advocate Kapil Dev Bhatta had filed a case at the apex court on Friday (February 10) after Nepali Congress leader put pressure on Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi to appoint Chand as the new IGP. Chand is third on seniority basis for the new police chief post behind DIG Nawaraj Silwal and DIG Prakash Aryal.

The apex court will now issue an interim order following discussions.

Meanwhile, DIG Nawaraj Silwal has filed a case at the SC demanding Chand's appointment as IGP be annulled.

Chand was appointed as the IGP by a Cabinet meeting on Sunday morning.
