The MWSP is currently installing the ductile iron pipes, ranging in diameter from 400 mm to 1,400 mm, to supply water from Sundarijal to different reservoirs in Kathmandu Valley.
The water main network will cover 60 km when the installation is completed, Dhakal said, adding that the work is expected to finish within next four months
“Once the ductile iron pipeline is laid, we will be ready to conduct a test run by channelling water to the city’s water supply network,” Dhakal said.
The MWSP has already completed building water reservoirs (with a capacity of holding 3 to 6 million litres of water) at Mahankal Chaur, Bansbari, Maharajgunj, Balaju and Khumaltar while the installation of water supply network is also nearing completion.
“Our plan is to complete the project before monsoon and start supplying water to the Valley not later than October,” Dhakal said.
