The Kantipur Media Group on Sunday handed over a cheque for Rs10 million (one crore rupees) to Saroj Kumar Shrestha, the winner of this season’s Kantipur ko Karodpati subscription campaign.
Chairman and Managing Director Kailash Sirohiya handed over the cheque to Shrestha at the KMG’s corporate office.
“We hope this money will help bring about a positive change in your life,” Sirohiya told Shrestha.
Shrestha, who had never won a lottery before, said it was unbelievable that he had won such a huge amount. His family has been subscribing the Kantipur newspaper for over a decade. The scheme involved Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post, the two dailies published by the KMG.
“I will spend some money on my family, especially to repay my children’s education loan but I will also give away some of it to the charity my father is associated with,” said Shrestha, explaining his plans.
Shrestha’s family has been helping an old-age home in Matatirtha. The 59-year-old Bafal resident is a trader. His two children are studying abroad.
Shrestha was declared the winner of the cash by a lucky draw on October 1.
