The Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal has directed Assistant Minister for Local Development and Federal Affairs Biraj Bista to resign within 24 hours. A meeting of the RPP-Nepal Central Working Committee on Friday issued the directive assessing that Bista had acted against the party’s interest.
The party also decided to ask Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to sack him on Saturday if he defies the directive to quit. According to Mohan Shrestha, assistant spokesperson for the party, Bista misused his authority to serve his personal interests. He has been charged with helping his father, former RPP-Nepal co-chair Keshar Bahadur Bista, who was sacked from the party two weeks ago “for working against the party”. Keshar had been critical of party Chairman Kamal Thapa, who is a deputy prime minister, imposing “dictatorship and centralising all power”.
