15 tonnes of garbage removed from Bagmati river
Over three dozen squatters living in Sinamangal area also participate in taking out the solid waste from the riverThe Bagmati Clean-up Campaign has removed 15 metric tonnes of garbage from Bagmati River at Minbhawan area and the surrounding areas. The campaign, launched on May 18, 2013, reached into 143th week on Saturday.
On the occasion, Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi and former Chief Secretary Leelamani Poudyal among other distinguished government officials and local
volunteers participated in the campaign.
Over three dozen squatters living in Sinamangal area
had also participated in taking out the solid waste from the river.
Volunteers from various organisations, security personnel, who have been participating in the campaign,
were provided with cleaning equipment including gloves, boots, masks.
Speaking at the programme, Poudyal said the clean-up work is moving ahead on a positive note.
“We are going to make the campaign more effective in the coming days with more awareness programmes,”
he said.
