The UCPN (Maoist) on Wednesday concluded that party’s ministers in the government have failed to meet people’s expectations. The UCPN (Maoist) on Wednesday concluded that party’s ministers in the government have failed to meet people’s expectations.
A meeting of party’s standing committee members and ministers said that the ministers should improve their performances as soon as possible. However, the party said it would not withdraw support to the government.
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is publicly floating the idea of forming a national unity government, bringing the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and Madhes-based parties on board.
According to leaders, the meeting pointed out that party’s ministers holding some crucial portfolios had failed to deliver in an effective way. According to UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the party leaders held a dim view of the government’s performance.
Maoist ministers hold home, energy, supply, agriculture, forest, agriculture, general administration, education and irrigation portfolios in the KP Oli-led government. Though the party has achieved key ministries in a power-sharing deal with the UML, the ministers have failed to impress, said a leader who participated in the meeting.
The party will give a final chance to its ministers to improve their performances, the leader said, requesting anonimity. “If they fail to mend their ways, the party will recall some ministers from the government.”
The ministers, however, defend themselves saying that the blockade had prevented them from performing as they wanted.
At the time of government formation, the party had formulated code of conduct for its ministers which have not been implemented. Similarly, the ministers were told to introduce some noble plans in their respective ministries.
It is expected to issue strict directives on Thursday after a review of the tasks undertaken by its ministers in the government.
The party had formed a committee under Vice-chair Shrestha to oversee the ministers’ performances and give necessary directives. “But the ministers are not cooperating,” he said.
