Nepal’s Nasir Yahya Hussain set a new national record in men’s 400m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, on Sunday.
He completed the distance in 4 minutes 8.23 seconds during the heats round of the World Championships, bettering his previous record of 4:12.17 set a month earlier during NSA Cup at Satdobato.
The 17-year-old, however, finished 46th overall among 55 participants. Australia’s 19-year old Samuel Short secured gold, clocking 3:40.68. Tunisia’s Ahmed Hafnaoui won silver, clocking 3:40.70 and Germany’s Lukas Martens earned bronze with a timing of 3:42.20.
Hussain will represent Nepal in men’s 200m freestyle on Monday and Gaurika Singh will compete in women’s 100m backstroke.
