Police take taekwondo team championship title
Police bag 11 gold, four silver and one bronze medals in taekwondo.Sports Bureau
Nepal Police Club secured the team championship title in taekwondo at the Ninth National Games winning 11 gold medals in Beni, Myagdi, on Wednesday.
Police also earned four silver and one bronze. Tribhuvan Army Club finished runners up with six gold, eight silver and two bronze medals while Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club secured third position with three gold, two silver and nine bronze medals.
Madhesh Province finished with one gold, two silver and five bronze medals. Lumbini took home two silver and four bronze medals and Bagmati one silver and three bronze medals. Non Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) secured one bronze while Province 1 bagged eight bronze medals. Gandaki had a share in seven bronze medals, Karnali three while Sudurpaschim secured one bronze.
The women’s 49kg held on Tuesday saw APF’s Gita Bista secure gold defeating Police’s Anjali Tamang. Madhesh’s Manisha Waiba and Lumbini’s Raitka Shahi were joint bronze medallists. In the 62kg division, Sushmita Moktan of Police and Reshma Thapa of Army bagged gold and silver while Bebika Basnet of Karnali and Pragya Pariyar of Province 1 walked away with bronze medals.
Police player Gobinda Bahadur Ale won the men’s 63kg gold defeating Rahul Kumal of Army in the final while Bikranta Dhungel of Madhesh and Ranjit Saud of APF, both of whom lost in semi-finals, were joint bronze medallists.
Sagun Shrestha of Army earned the men’s 68kg gold and Sagar Tamang of Bagmati silver medals. Nabin Chaudhary of Lumbini and Mohammad Ritik of APF were joint bronze medallists. Kabi Adhikari of Police took men’s 87kg gold defeating Amit Kumar Singh of Madhesh in the final. Niraj Deuja of APF and Sohan Raut of Karnali were the joint bronze medallists.
