Nepal announced a 23-member women’s national football team for the four-nation international football tournament on Friday. The tournament will take place in Bhubaneswar, India from February 7 to 17.
“We have not received any information about the format. We got the invitation and confirmed our participation,” said All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) spokesperson Kiran Rai. “We have written to the organisers All India Football Federation asking for the details but we have not received any official information regarding the tournament format,” he added. “But the tournament will feature national teams of the participating countries,” he assured. Nepal are taking the tournament as part their preparations for the biennial Women’s SAFF Championship to be held in Biratnagar on March 12-22. Nepal have been draw alongside Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan in Group ‘A’.
The tournament in India will feature four teams including hosts India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The final list of 20 players for SAFF will be selected among the 23 players travelling to India. Hari Khadka is the coach and Niru Thapa the captain. The squad includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders and midfielders each and four forwards
