Nepal came from behind to clinch gold in the South Asian Games men’s football category by defeating India 2-1 in the final match on Monday at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati.
Prakash Budhthoki’s 66th minute goal from a free kick cancelled India’s 32nd minute lead from a penalty before Nawayug Shrestha slotted home the winner in the 72nd minute.
Nepal have won the tournament after a gap of 23 years. Nepal’s current coach Raju Kaji Shakya was the captain of the team that won gold in 1993.
