Rana set to play futsal in Maldives
Sajana Rana, the national women’s football team midfielder, has won herself a contract with a Maldivian club to play the Women’s Futsal Fiest in the island country.Rana left for Maldives via India on Monday to take part in a month-long tournament that will fetch her US$ 700. Rana will play for Feneka Corporation Limited in the 12-team tournament where the teams have hired players from China, Japan and Bangladesh, informed Fifa referee Sudish Pandey who had coordinated for Rana’s contract.
Rana put pen on papers on March 4 with the tournament set to be held from March 14 to April 15 in Male. Pandey said that he was approached by Feneka to recommend a Nepali player after Nepal’s impressive performance in the third Saff Women’s Championship last year in Pakistan where they had finished second.
“The women’s team has been playing well in the South Asian front and Sajana (Rana) getting an opportunity to compete in a futsal tournament is due to her performance in Pakistan,” said Pandey. Rana had made her international debut in the first Women’s Saff Championship in 2010 and has been a regular member of the national team ever since. She scored four goals during the third Saff Women’s Championship.
