Dangol scripts Three Star win
Substitute Amar Dangol scored twice as Three Star Club defeated Far Western Club 3-0 in the National League at the Dashrath Stadium on Wednesday. With the win Three Star leapt to top of the table with six points from two matches while Far Western Football Club are at the bottom with two defeats. Dangol, a second half substitution, scored in the 72nd and 76th minute while Santosh Sahukhala added the third in the 90th minute to seal their emphatic victory. Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC), Lumbini Football Club and Tribhuvan Army Club are next on three points each.
Far West, who made four changes to the team that lost 3-0 to MMC in the league opener, put on a spirited show in the first half keeping Three Star at bay. After the first 45 minutes ended with both sides failing to create any notable scoring opportunities, the Lalitpur-based outfits found their feet in the second half. They replaced Elvis Appiah with Dangol in the 46th minute and the move paid rich dividend.
After Jagajeet sent in a ball across the face of the goal, the ball bounced head high for Dangol to head over the Far West custodian Birendra Bahadur Chand from a crowded area to give Three Star the 72nd minute lead. Dangol doubled the tally four minutes later when he was left unmarked at far post and needed just a tap in on a Jagajeet cross. Three Star kept on searching for more goals and their efforts paid off when Sahukhala added the third in the dying moments of the game. Man-of-the-match Jagajeet fed the ball to Sahukhala inside the area for the striker to make a quick run and shoot past Chand.
For Far West, Mani Ram Chaudhary came close to scoring twice. Chaudhary shot wide on a pass from Dinesh Rajbansi in the 13th minute before squandering another opportunity, heading high over the bar a pass from Heman Thapa Magar.
Three Star coach Anjan KC was happy that his timely substitution worked well for his team. “We struggled in the first half but our decision to bring in Amar (Dangol) worked in our favour. Our game improved dramatically thereafter,” said KC.
Far West coach Kiran Shrestha blamed his defense for conceding the first two goals. “Our defenders gifted the two goals due to their own sluggish play. Our team then appeared to lost the desire after going down by two goals,” said the coach. Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Nepal Armed Police Force Club on Thursday.
