At least 49 people were injured in a bus accident in Hetauda on Friday.

According to the Makwanpur District Police Office, the bus, en route to Janakpur from Chitwan, met with the accident in Nawalpur of the Hetauda district at 2pm on Friday.

Of the 49 injured, 27 have been rushed to the Hetauda Hospital while the rest have been taken to the Chure Hill Hospital for treatment, police said.

The police suspect road construction work caused the vehicle to lose control and skid off the road, said Police Inspector Bamdev Gautam.

Some of the injured have sustained serious injuries, Gautam added.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
