The curfew imposed in parts of Gaur Municipality has been lifted after a peace march was taken out in Sabgadh, ward 6, by local civil society members and political representatives on Monday.
Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal said the curfew was lifted morning following the rally, which marched through the village to promote social harmony and calm. Security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force had been deployed since Saturday to maintain order.
The curfew had been enforced after clashes erupted between two communities during a wedding procession on Friday over loud music. The dispute escalated into stone-pelting and the torching of a vehicle, prompting authorities to restrict movement from 1pm on Saturday.
Residents said the area had been tense for several days, with limited movement allowed only for essential activities between 6:30am and 8:30am. Several people were taken into custody for allegedly instigating the clashes.
Both communities reached a peace agreement at the district administration office on Sunday, allowing the march to proceed. The rally, including local leaders, residents, and officials, marched through Sabgadh to demonstrate unity. Following the march, life in Gaur returned to normal, and authorities said they would continue monitoring the area to prevent further incidents.
