Long-stalled food warehouse reconstruction resumes in Birgunj
The warehouse, designed to store 1,000 metric tons of food grains, was abandoned midway by the previous contractor, leaving only the walls completed.
Post Report
After nearly a decade of delay, reconstruction of a warehouse at the Food Management and Trading Company Limited’s Birgunj branch has finally resumed.
According to Branch Chief Pankaj Kumar Jha, the company’s central office awarded a new contract this year to complete the remaining work on the 488.125-square-metre facility. Bhagawati Radhemai Construction Service, Birgunj, won the contract for Rs8.17 million (including VAT).
The warehouse, designed to store 1,000 metric tons of food grains, was abandoned midway by the previous contractor, leaving only the walls completed. “The remaining work includes plastering, roofing, and painting. As per the agreement signed on July 16, the contractor must finish and hand over the building within a year,” Jha said.
Construction materials have already been delivered, and work has started on the site. Most existing warehouses at the branch are old and dilapidated. About five years ago, the US government funded the construction of a warehouse in the same compound.
Jha stated that once the new facility is completed, the branch will have significantly improved storage capacity for food grains, ensuring smooth supply management in the region.
