Police on Tuesday morning arrested Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Rajesh Man Singh, acting on a court’s approval for the arrest.

He was taken under control from the Thori area, police said. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Karki, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Parsa, Singh was detained at 6:15am from the Thori Jungle Resort.

Police said Singh is under investigation in a forgery-related case involving allegations of preparing fake documents. The court allowed police to arrest Singh last Tuesday.

He is accused of helping prepare citizenship and other official documents by falsely presenting another person’s daughter as his own.

Singh was taken to the District Police Office for further investigation and legal proceedings.
