A mother and her son died from electrocution in Paroha Municipality, Rautahat district, on Wednesday.

According to Inspector Umashankar Gupta of the District Police Office, Rautahat, Lalitadevi Sah, 35, and her 18-year-old son, Arjit Sah, were electrocuted while operating an electric motor.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon while they were using the motor for laundry. Both were rushed to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur for treatment, but they succumbed to their injuries later that night.

Inspector Gupta confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The incidents of electric shock have been on the rise in recent years. Since 2018, a total of 449 people have lost their lives due to electrocution across the eight districts of the Madhesh Province, the data from the Madhesh Province Police Office stated.
