A meeting of the Madhesh provincial assembly was adjourned on Tuesday after the Janamat Party obstructed the meeting demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the Rajbiraj incident in which leaders and cadres of the party were injured.
The meeting was called for 2pm for Chief Saroj Kumar Yadav to seek a vote of confidence for the fourth time. Chief Minister Yadav was taking the trust vote after the erstwhile ruling partner, the Nepali Congress party, withdrew its support with the change in the political power equation at the centre.
Speaking at the meeting, lawmaker Chandan Singh, who is also the spokesperson for the Janamat Party, demanded a parliamentary probe of the incident.
On January 23, the CK Raut-led Party withdrew its support to the Madhesh government and recalled its two provincial ministers following a dispute over the foundation-laying function for a university in Saptari. Tensions between the two prominent Madhesh-based parties–Janata Samajbadi Party and Janamat Party–escalated dramatically during the foundation-laying function at the Madhesh Agriculture University in Rajbiraj on January 22.
Janamat Party’s provincial assembly members stood up from their seats and obstructed the meeting. Speaker Ramchandra Mandal then adjourned the meeting for ten minutes.
