Sankhuwasabha

Three houses were swept away by a landslide in Khandbari Municipality-11 of Sankhuwasabha district on Wednesday night. More than 25 families have been affected.

According to Police Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane, the landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, swept away the houses of Kottima village locals Mani Prasad Rai, Ram Prasad Rai and Dil Bahadur Rai.

Likewise, the landslide rendered four other houses in ward 4 of the municipality uninhabitable, said ward chair Binod Subba Gurung.

Five houses in ward 1 and 2 of Chichila Rural Municipality, which face a high risk of being swept by a landslide, have been alerted, police said.

The district administration has requested citizens to move to safer spaces. Efforts are being made to clear obstructions from the Mudhe-Num and Thulodhunga-Arunthan road sections.

Crops worth Rs30 million were destroyed by the disaster. A detailed damage assessment caused by the landslide is underway, Lamichhane added.

Correction:
An earlier version of the article erroneously stated that 125 families had been 'displaced' by the landslide.
