The prohibition has been enforced to avoid any kind of protests while the assembly gives a new name to Province-1.Post Report
The district administration of Morang has enforced a prohibitory order in various parts of Biratnagar until further notice.
Chief District Officer of Morang district Tirtharaj Bhattarai issued a notice on Wednesday announcing the prohibition to come into effect from 3pm onwards.
“The prohibitory order has been enforced to avoid any untoward incident during demonstrations or protests as the provincial assembly decides on a new name for Province-1,” reads the notice. The assembly is preparing to name the province on Wednesday.
Any kind of assembly, procession, meeting, rally, or religious gatherings are banned in the stated areas.
Three major political parties Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre) have announced to vote on the proposal that has proposed Province-1 be named “Koshi Province”.
However, the CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janta Samajbadi Party have jointly submitted another proposal to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat to name the province ‘Kirat-Limbuwan-Sagarmatha Province’.
According to the constitutional provision, the proposal must secure a two-thirds majority in the provincial assembly to get endorsed.
In the 93-member Province 1 Assembly, a proposal will require the votes of 63 lawmakers to be approved.
Province-1 leaders have been criticised for failing to name the province in the previous five-year term of the assembly while all other six provincial assemblies named their respective provinces.
