1.6 million affected by Bhotekoshi floods, says government report

Nearly 1.6 million people have been affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi floods, which have killed over 1,000 people and left nearly 4,000 missing, according to the government’s preliminary situation report released on Tuesday.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, identified Rasuwa and Nuwakot as the worst-affected districts. Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan were listed as moderately affected.
The authority said 1,050 people had lost their lives so far, underscoring the scale of one of Nepal’s deadliest disasters.
Chitwan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies, with 321, followed by Nawalparasi East with 216 and Nawalparasi West with 170. Authorities recovered 142 bodies in Nuwakot, 65 in Gorkha, 57 in Dhading, 41 in Rasuwa and 38 in Tanahun.
A total of 3,916 people have been reported missing from 62 districts across the country, according to the authority.
Of those reported missing, 62 percent were Nepali nationals travelling in groups, including domestic tourists, while 17 percent were employees of government agencies and 15 percent were foreign nationals.
Rescue operations have so far brought 11,814 people to safety, including 253 foreign nationals. Air operations alone accounted for more than 3,702 rescues through 573 flights.
Nepal has mobilised 21,011 security personnel for search and rescue operations, including 8,896 from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force.
International teams from India, China and South Korea have also joined Nepali security forces in search and rescue operations, reflecting the scale and complexity of the emergency across the mountainous region.
The disaster has placed additional pressure on Nepal’s health services. A total of 292 injured people have received treatment at various health facilities, with 79 still undergoing treatment and 210 discharged.
Three people died while receiving medical care.
The Nepali Army has separately provided medical treatment to another 2,740 people in the affected areas.
