A case has been filed at the Kathmandu District Court against eight individuals on charges of embezzling funds belonging to the Nepal Children's Organisation.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has charged Asha Shrestha, then chief of the Planning and Scholarship Division at the organisation; Rajendra Kumar Shrestha, then secretary of the organisation's Kathmandu District Working Committee; Om Krishna Karmacharya, then chair of the Lalitpur chapter; Yuri Kumari Rai, then chair of the Bhojpur chapter; and Deepak Das Shrestha, then deputy treasurer of the organisation.

Also named in the chargesheet are Prayagraj Shrestha, then treasurer; Bhagwan Shakya, then chair of the Kathmandu district chapter; and Ram Krishna Chitrakar, then adviser to the Lalitpur chapter.

Among the accused, Asha, Rajendra Kumar and Om Krishna Karmacharya are in police custody, while the remaining five are absconding.

According to the chargesheet, one of the accused is alleged to have received double benefits despite having been elected to public office. The remaining defendants are accused of receiving financial assistance from the organisation in violation of its statute and existing financial regulations.
