Court allows two more days’ remand of Oli and Lekhak
Former prime minister Oli attends hearing virtually from hospital as police seek more time for probe.Post Report
The Kathmandu District Court has granted police two more days to keep former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak in custody for investigation.
A bench of judge Bishnu Prasad Awasthi on Thursday approved the extension following a request from investigators after the completion of the earlier remand period.
Oli, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, attended the remand hearing virtually, according to court officials.
On Sunday, the same court had allowed police to keep the two leaders in custody for five days. With that period expiring, investigators sought additional time to continue the probe.
Oli and Lekhak were arrested on Saturday based on the findings of a commission led by former Special Court chair Gauri Bahadur Karki, which was formed to investigate the loss of life and property during the Gen Z-led protests in September last year.
