Prohibitory order imposed in and around Tribhuvan International Airport
Month-long restriction bans gatherings of more than five people ahead of planned February 13 protest.Post Report
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has imposed a prohibitory order in and around the Tribhuvan International Airport premises after some groups and political parties announced plans to stage a protest on February 13.
The order, effective from Thursday for one month, bans gatherings of more than five people within the airport premises.
According to the order issued by Chief District Officer Ishwarraj Paudel, the restriction applies from the Golden Gate entrance to all roads within the airport premises, including the domestic and international terminals and parking areas. Sit-ins, hunger strikes, demonstrations, rallies and public assemblies involving more than five people have been prohibited.
The order states that organising protests in and around the highly sensitive airport area could lead to vandalism, arson and other unruly activities by agitated crowds.
It also clarifies that citizens retain their constitutional right to freedom of opinion and expression and to assemble peacefully without arms in areas not covered by the prohibitory order.
The administration said organisers will be required to compensate for any damage to government, public or private property caused during protests, even if prior notice has been given.
