Road accidents claim 238 lives in a month

As many as 238 people, including 15 children, lost their lives in road accidents across the country in a span of a month, as per the Nepal Police report.
The 2,756 cases of traffic accidents left 4,016 injured between mid-December and mid-January. Of them, 663 were critically injured, leaving 3,353 others with minor injuries.
The police study identifies speeding as the primary cause of the accidents, accounting for 1,230 of the total reported. Drunk driving, inexperienced riders, jaywalking, and unnecessary overtaking were other contributing factors in accidents involving 4,549 vehicles during the period.
With over 56 percent share, the motorcycles were involved in most of the accidents. It was followed by cars and jeeps, buses and trucks and tippers, according to the police report.
Traffic police studies show that most accidents were reported between 12 noon and 6 in the evening. The police took action against 88,969 traffic rule violators and raised Rs80.41 million in fines. Accidents and traffic violations were more common among male drivers, according to police findings.
