The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Kathmandu, in collaboration with the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), held a strategic dialogue on Tuesday focused on water conservation and innovation amid global climate challenges, drawing insights from the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative.
Speaking at the event, Madan Prasad Pariyar, minister for agriculture and livestock development, said the world is confronting an unprecedented water crisis, with nearly four billion people facing water scarcity each year.
Minister Pariyar noted that timely action, regional cooperation, scientific planning, and technological innovation are crucial to safeguarding water security, ensuring food stability, enhancing human well-being, and strengthening climate resilience.
UAE Ambassador Abdullah Jervan Al Shamsi emphasised the need for sustainable water management, calling for broader rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation, and stronger protection of rivers and groundwater systems.
The ambassador highlighted the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, launched in 2024, which promotes advanced solutions including desalination, international collaboration, and assistance for vulnerable communities.
